Lodging around Santa Marta, Best Locations with references to Google satellite maps.

Lodging in the Santa Marta region along the Caribbean Coast consists of

and can span a distance of 40 miles (65 Km). It is important to understand the location so that you are close to the attractions that you enjoy. A quiet resort far away from the city will be a poor choice if you like the party atmosphere.

The Santa Marta area is composed of a number of municipalities including

Santa Marta, medium to lower priced hotels, hostels.

Taganga, that has a range of small hotels and hostels

El Rodadero, Lodgings can range from resorts to hostels.

Pozos Colorados, Accommodations are more expensive, resorts.

Bello Horizonte, mostly resorts with higher prices.

Minca, Small town in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

Areas to the west heading in the direction of Barranquilla, these are resorts, higher priced and about 15 minutes out of town.

There are many good sites that can give you much of the important information such as the star rating, friendliness of staff or the cleanliness of the rooms, this site is to help you decide Where and gives you all the beach hotels, hotels and lodging close by.

I hope to save you the trouble and the many hours of research needed by giving you an address with aerial maps for the various hotel locations. This will make your route planning easier. When I'm in a town or a city I like to locate maps to help me get around and to see the area attractions but I have found few usable or detailed maps for the Santa Marta region.

Part of the information given for a hotel is in the form of an address, but a hotel address is only helpful if you have proper maps to locate them. With all the right tools and resources you can still spend hours in an attempt to to locate a place using maps, photos and descriptions, this work I have already done for you.

If I don't have a map I am usually lost and miss many opportunities for exploration because I either did not know a certain landmark existed or I did not have a good overview of an area so my route planning was poor. I have worked many years as a helicopter maintenance engineer in Northern Canada chasing helicopters in some very isolated locations, you have to know where you are and where you are going and how to approach your travel, a poor map can get you lost and have you sitting in your vehicle waiting to be rescued, a good map will add confidence, reduces stress and allows for more complete planning.

These hotels are very popular tourist destinations both for Colombians and South Americans, now there is a great interest with North Americans and Europeans. Places to stay in the region are much less expensive than resorts based on the Caribbean Islands and with a location on the mainland of South America you don't have the limitations or isolation you get on a small island. The prices shown are what I have seen advertised but are not exact, only to give you an idea, sometimes it is even hard to get a price, generally though I believe the rates are accurate.

Many people have visited this destination before you so if your friends are shocked that you have chosen Santa Marta, Colombia as a destination you can just tell them that although it's exotic it's also very popular and not a concern for an adventurous traveler.

Note: There is no Lodging along the beach in the city of Santa Marta as there is a main avenue running along the beach and all the hotels are on the other side of the avenue.
