  • La Piscina, safer for swimming.

  • El Cabo or Cabo San Juan de Guia, two very nice beaches separated by an outcrop, with a hut or cabin with hammocks available, as you are sticking out in the ocean a bit it is much cooler than camping on land so dress accordingly. This beach is like the land before time, the weather is very warm, the water perfect for swimming, as you can see, the beaches are uncrowded, truly a top beach.

Las Pleyades, just a few minutes walk from the main entrance at Canveral

One way to get to the beach camping spots at Tayrona Park is to take a bus headed towards Palomino on the way to Riohacha and get off at El Zaino, from there you can walk to Play Cañaveral and head westward through the park. A cab can take you from Santa Marta to the main entrance also but it cost more.

It's always a good idea to do a little research before you go, find out for yourself how long the walks can take, can you buy drinks along the way, locations for the small restaurants in the park, how crowded the facilities will be. Ensure that you know the safe places to swim as although some stretches of beach are beautiful they are also dangerous. Sometimes businesses close up or move so play it safe and ask questions before you decide to visit some of these areas.

Caution, in some places and parks you should have your yellow fever shot as it may be required to enter some locations, play it safe.

Remember that you may not be used to local water so drink bottled water, if you are having drinks be aware that ice cubes will not be from bottled water but local water.
