Beach Hotels in the Santa Marta area are located in some very beautiful localities along the Colombian and or Caribbean coast, most are not too far away from the larger populated areas of El Rodadero or Santa Marta. Beach Vacations in this area is the norm with some exploring and day trips going on in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

For those who want to be on the beach but want to break away from the beach hotel scene for a short time there is always an option of Beach Camping

A resort town just over the hill from Santa Marta heading west towards Barranquilla, is a great place to spend time, with lots of entertainment and a real relaxing atmosphere. For living or holidays, it has great beaches, warm water (and it has to be warm for me to swim in it.), a great variety of beach hotels, cabins, resorts, rental apartments with lots of restaurants, clubs, close to Santa Marta, two hours to Barranquilla and four hours drive to Cartagena. El Rodadero is close to everything including grocery stores and shopping, and is a relaxing place to be. The disadvantage are the beach vendors, they're great when you need them but can tire you out if you just want to lay on the beach.

The city of Santa Marta has no beach hotels as there is an avenue running along the beach, Avenida Rodrigo de Bastidas or Avenida del Fundador, I have seen it referred to as both, accommodation type is mid to less expensive, this is more city life but no resorts or cabins in this location. Many hotels and hostels can be found along Avenida del Fundidor but all are across the avenue from the beach.

Beach Hotels In TagangaTaganga, which is located just on the outskirts of Santa Marta offers a chance to be on the beach at lower prices. Taganga is a small fishing village and a bit out of the way but you can be in a nice beach hotel while still paying bargain rates. The beach in Taganga is not as nice as many of the other beaches nearby so you can travel a bit or stay put and enjoy the convenience of having everything close by.
