The Best Beaches Of Santa Marta
Find Yourself On One Of Them.

Best beaches make for a great discussion, a beautiful beach fills us with pride when we can introduce a person to our very favorite place and have them feel the same way. My favorite beaches are around the Santa Marta area at Tayrona park and on the beach in El Rodadero, a touristy suburb of Santa Marta.

My happiest and most peaceful times are at the beach, a morning swim at 7:00 am is such a great way to start the day, but I need warm water, not North American warm but South American warm, when you leave the water the air temperature is just rising above 82˚ F, (27˚ C) so your warm either in the water or out, and that's all year.

The best beaches would have to have the following

  • beach scenery
  • Warm water plus safe to swim
  • A place where no one will disturb you
  • Abundant wildlife and birds
  • Close to inexpensive food and drinks
  • Heat all day, sun or cloud
  • A place where older people including seriors have access to the great power of sun, sand and the physical benefits of time in the water.
Although there are many reasons to like a beach I think far enough south to have palm trees, as they symbolize how beautiful nature can be and is usually is an indicator of great weather and warm water. Another point is that it’s nice to be relatively close to some culture and some things to do not too far away, even on some of the beautiful secluded beaches, you could be dancing late into that same night in the city.

I think Cabo San Juan De Guia has to be one of the best beaches in Colombia, it is about an hour into Tayrona Park, the waters are warm and calm, there are two beaches shaped like horseshoes one on each side of a beautiful outcrop with a traditional hut built on top, there are only a few small buildings close by, for food and drink and some rentals.

Another beach that I really like is right in town, it’s the beach in El Rodadero, the beach is nice, I like all of the tall buildings just off the beach and at night there is some action going on with bands and many people, it’s a great place to spend the evening with beer and drinks, many good restaurants close by, what more could you ask for.

Playa Grande just around the corner from Taganga by boat is another on the list. Hiking from Taganga is possible but you can also take a boat, they serve good meals in the restaurants that are along the beach, you can take a quick snorkeling course and actually go snorkeling, no long drawn out fuss. Take a quick course, go snorkeling, no paperwork so certifications.

There are many more best beaches in the area if you want to take the time to explore, just go to Tayrona Park just outside of Santa Marta and you will see what I mean.
