Because the weather in Santa Marta is fantastic many of the bars and discos have open air dancing, you don't need a roof when the weather is warm all year and the rain is normally predictable. We had a great time the last time we went out with good friends, great beer, music all night for dancing with the cost as affordable as I've seen anywhere else, beer at the club ran about $1.50 US. The music of Santa Marta is alive with the rhythm of musical styles from all over, African, Cuban, North American, some styles being Vallenato, Reggaeton, Salsa, Cumbia and a whole lot more. If you walk through a neighbourhood you will probably hear music playing a block away, sometimes if your house is in the middle you can enjoy two types of music at the same time. But don't worry, this is Colombian living, my wife's aunt had her house located between two competing types of music, she just laughed and shrugged her shoulders, no one puts up a fuss, it's just accepted. If you want to hang out at the beach at night there is party music wherever you go, so relax and join in. The Chiva Rumbera is a good option, you get to travel around in an open air bus partying and enjoying great music, it's all in good fun, you get to dance and act stupid, if you fall out the next bus can pick you up, since your in Colombia your allowed to enjoy yourself without being harassed. Action and excitement is the everyday part of life here, you don't have to be rich as a night out is priced for the average Colombian, forget about the Resorts though as the ordinary Colombian does not go there so they will be priced the same as in North America. Every night can be a party night if you want, but please remember, people from all over Colombia come to Santa Marta for their vacations and Colombians like to party, so try not to out party a Colombian, your head may regret it the next day although your selective memory may not remember why you are feeling so washed out. There are certain times of year when instead of having a party every two or three days the city goes all out and it turns into a week of festivities and the party music is in full swing, this is normal in Colombia, their work will be waiting for them when they get back. - Cumbia Festival
- Cayman Festival
- Sea Festival (Fiesta del Mar)
- Carnival in Barranquilla
Santa Marta welcomes party music, it just seems natural along the warm beaches or on the streets to hear a variety of musical styles from near and far.
