Simon BolivarLiberator of South America. Quinta (Hacienda) de San Pedro Alejandrino is the location in which "The Liberator" Simon Bolivar died on December 17, 1830 of tuberculosis. His full name was Simón José Antonio de la Santísima Trinidad Bolívar Palacios y Blanco. He is a Colombian national hero for fighting for the independence of the present-day countries of Colombia, Panama, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia.
Born in July 24, 1783, in Caracas, Venezuela he is a much celebrated figure in Northern South American history. He was president of Gran Colombia from 1819 to 1830 which encompassed the territories of present-day Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, and Panama. Battles
The tour of San Pedro Alejandro is very nice, the scenery beautiful, when we took it there were only a few other people and it turned out to be a personal tour, also a very nice little restaurant that was waiting for us when the tour was finished. A hat is recommended as every day is hot and usually sunny.
The botanical gardens are also very beautiful and just walking around the premises makes for a nice day trip. The photos were taken a few years ago and I will probably return this year to see what I probably missed the first time. Buena Vista Shopping Mall is the largest mall in Santa Marta and is only one block to the south, it is very modern and a good place to stop now that you are so close.
